(For Curiosity Killed the Carnival Series)

This series of work which I am calling “Curiosity Killed the Carnival”, is a group of paintings, sculptures, and prints that utilize geometric abstraction. The goal being that all the works as a unit evoke the feeling of a circus/carnival. To further the connection between pieces; stripes, squares, and triangles are all incorporated in some way or another. How I select the layouts and colour palettes for each new work is usually determined in advance; however, I have been known to do things spontaneously without significant planning. Letting inspiration takes hold when I feel it needs to. I utilize qualities from any given object, food, or attraction at a carnival or circus. I became attached to this idea about a year ago now, and it’s because of how many people, at least in the “western world”, have a connection to the carnival. I think it is a relatable experience, whether it is positive or negative. I want to make sure there is at least one piece that everyone can appreciate and empathize with. Furthermore, I grew to have a great appreciation for constructivism and suprematism in my more recent years, and I am very excited to get to experiment and try it more myself.
